Yeah, I left the Note-Worthy. They didn’t need me. They won Regionals without me and that was just because they’re that good. But they offered me a spot back with them and I’d be an idiot not to rejoin. Those vapid bitches on the Butch Queens never truly accepted me. Most of them weren’t even butch. As for Becca, she can at least move the fuck on from me, because I sure as hell have. Get ready bitches…Jackie St. Clare is back.

“OH.” Alison said as she saw who was walking through the door.

“MY.” Sydney said.

“GOD!” Becca and Nathan said at the same time.

“Don’t sound too excited. I’m taking up your offer to rejoin. So, what’d I miss?”

“Welcome back Jackie. I’m sure we are all very excited for you to be back.” Mrs. Clarke said as Becca got up and walked out.

“Let her go. Bitch didn’t get me a diamond necklace from Tiffany’s for Christmas like I asked.” Alison said.

“I thought you turned over a new leaf…” Sydney asked, but Alison just ignored her.

“Who told Butch she could come back?” Alison asked.

“I did, and clearly she agreed to it. So just deal with it Alison.” Lily said.

“Whatever, and you’re on my list Bruno. Don’t expect your Glamazon realness to protect you this time. I fight dirty.”

“Shut up, Alison…”

“Excuse me Matthew?”

“You heard me, I told you to shut up. Why are you such an awful irrational bitch to everyone?”

“I’m not awful to everyone, just last week I let Estonia’s Next Top Horseface hang out with us. I also let Maya be my Vice-President…”

“Well, you black-mailed me…”

“No one asked you. I’m nice and I keep it real. And who are you to talk to me like that Matt?”

“Your boyfriend; giving you a reality check…”

“Well here’s a reality check for all of you lame ass wannabes: without me this club is nothing. You can all suck it…” She said as she stormed off. “SYDNEY” she called after her friend who followed behind as Angelika followed suit.

“It’s so nice to have you back Jackie…” Angelika said before she left.

“Right so…this week we need to start preparing for Nationals. We will be having a small, competition if you will.”

“What’s the prize?”

“The prize is a featured solo at Nationals…” Mrs. Clarke said as Sydney, Alison, Becca and Angelika all returned. The entire club was giddy with the thought of getting guaranteed solo at Nationals. It was the next best thing to performing on Broadway.

“Right so, the actual competition will begin on Wednesday so all of you are free to come at lunch, after school and before school to choose and sing a solo. And no sabotage…”

“Alison.” Matt coughed as Alison glared back at him. The bell rang and free period was over.

***

“Can you believe that awful boyfriend of mine?”

“No I can’t…”

“The NERVE of him to talk to me like that…” Alison ranted as Becca listened. It was a do nothing day in Third Period Calculus.

“He’s a dickhead…I can’t believe Lily would actually invite Jackie back…”

“I thought you two were in a good place?”

“I thought so too…but when she showed up, I wanted to cry and then punch her. I still love her and then she broke up with me…”

“I’m sorry you feel that way, Becs.”

“I’m sorry Matt’s such a dickhead…”

“He will not get away with this.”

“What are you going to do?” Becca asked as Alison smirked an evil grin.

***

“I’m so excited for Solo week.” Lily exclaimed to Alex as they held hands walking to the Cafeteria.

“Really? I couldn’t tell.” Alex joked as Lily smacked his shoulder as they joined the rest of the Note-Worthy at their usual table.

“Where’s Kyle?” Lily asked, noticing he was missing.

“I don’t know. I haven’t seen him since glee club…” Joe said.

“I saw him last night at a club…” Nathan said. He was known to be the biggest partier in the club.

“What?”

“He wasn’t drinking…”

“What was he taking?”

“Nothing, he was just there. At least I didn’t see him taking anything…” Nathan continued as Maya got up.

“I just thought of a song I’m gonna sing…I gotta go.” She lied. She knew exactly where to find Kyle.

***

Kyle found the roof of the school and discovered it to be his sanctuary. He needed the space. It had only been two months since she died. He tried pretending like everything was okay and when that didn’t work he tried drinking again but he couldn’t do that to Lily, Jessica, Joe or Maya. Well, he couldn’t do it to them until he decided it was what he needed.

“I knew you’d be up here.” Maya said behind him. He was expection a whole hoard of the Note-Worthy to be there, but it was just her. And he was grateful for that, but he also knew he couldn’t lie to her.

“I took LSD.” He admitted, Maya gasped. Kyle had done more than take LSD. He never told anyone about his personal romantic life. But he had been sneaking out and not getting home until 6am. Yeah, he was a bit of a slut. But he was young, hot and rich so why not?

“Kyle…”

“I needed something to help me stop feeling like this.”

“DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW STUPID THAT WAS!?” Maya screamed at him. “Sometimes I’m amazed at how stupid you can be, Kyle…You’re an addict. “ She continued, this time a lot more calmly.

“I know…”

“Don’t EVER do that again, promise?”

“I promise…”

“Do you?”

“I…I promise.” He said.

“Why do I bother with you sometimes?”

“Because I’m hopeless without you…”

“That much is clear.” She said as Kyle went in for a hug. He didn’t want to disappoint her anymore.

“I just don’t want to feel like this anymore.” He thought to himself.

***

After school was finished, the Note-Worthy gathered into the choir room to practice their solos, and Alison came up with a plan to exact revenge on Matt.

“Oh Matthew…” Alison waved to her boyfriend.

“What?”

“Always so ungrateful…I want to remind you that tonight is our 2 month, 5 day anniversary…I Hope you didn’t forget it.”

“What?”

“You forgot our 2 month five day anniversary? I can’t.”

“Alison that’s insane…”

“I’m not insane, if you want to date someone insane why don’t you take Kyle to the Sadie Hawkins dance.”

“Just shut up. You are acting crazier than Kyle ever has…”

“Um… thanks?” Kyle said from behind them.

“Oh well there’s your opportunity, ask him to the dance.”

“Why are you doing this?”

“Because I can. It’s my job to be the psycho irrational bitch remember?”

“You are blowing this way out of proportion…”

“Am I?”

“Yes…”

“Then why don’t you just end it…”

“BECAUSE I FUCKING LOVE YOU!”

“THEN ACT LIKE IT AND STOP SCREAMING AT ME TO SHUT UP!!”

Nathan was in the back eating the popcorn he grabbed out of nowhere. This is the main reason why he loved being in the glee club so much. The drama was too good to pass up.

“It feels like you don’t believe in me…that I’m always going to come second to Maya. Like I’m not good enough for you…”

***

Wednesday came quickly and the entire club was prepared for their solos. Alison kicked it off by singing ‘Fuck You’ by Lily Allen, which she dedicated to ‘no one in particular’, before she glared intensely at Matt and made the rest of the club uncomfortable.

Nathan was up next and he began by saying that he was singing this song purely because it was one of his favourite songs.

“What I want to say, is that this is one of my favourite songs and there is no hidden message behind it. I realize that some of you may not understand me most of the time, but I will tell you this. We will take nationals because of one thing.” Nathan said, pausing for dramatic effect. “It’s Nathan…Bitch.

NATHAN (THE NOTE-WORTHY):

There's only two types of people in the world

The ones that entertain, and the ones that observe

Well baby I'm a put-on-a-show kinda girl

Don't like the backseat, gotta be first (oh, oh)

I'm like the ringleader

I call the shots (call the shots)

I'm like a firecracker

I make it hot

When I put on a show

I feel the adrenaline moving through my veins (hah, hah, hah)

Spotlight on me and I'm ready to break (hah, hah, hah)

I'm like a performer, the dancefloor is my stage (hah, hah, hah)

Better be ready, hope that ya feel the same (hah, hah, hah)

All the eyes on me in the center of the ring

Just like a circus (ah, ah, ahaha-hah)

When I crack that whip, everybody gonna trip

Just like a circus (ah, ah, ahaha-hah)

Don't stand there watching me, follow me

Show me what you can do

Everybody let go, we can make a dancefloor

Just like a circus (ah, ah, ahaha-hah, ha, ha, ha, ha, ho, ho, ho)

There's only two types of guys out there,

Ones that can hang with me, and ones that are scared

So baby I hope that you came prepared

I run a tight ship, so beware

I'm like a ring leader,

I call the shots (call the shots)

I'm like a fire cracker,

I make it hot

When I put on a show.

I feel the adrenaline moving through my veins (hah, hah, hah)

Spotlight on me and I'm ready to break (hah, hah, hah)

I'm like a performer, the dancefloor is my stage (hah, hah, hah)

All the eyes on me in the center of the ring

Just like a circus (ah, ah, ahaha-hah)

When I crack that whip, everybody gonna trip

Just like a circus (ah, ah, ahaha-hah)

Don't stand there watching me, follow me

Show me what you can do

Everybody let go, we can make a dancefloor

Just like a circus (ah, ah, ahaha-hah, ha, ha, ha, ha, ho, ho, ho)

NATHAN (NOTE-WORTHY)

Let's go..(ah, ah, ahaha-hah)

Let me see what you can do..(ah, ah, ahaha-hah)

I'm running this.

Yeah, like what..?

Nathan then ditches the scuba tank and performs a sickening dance routine with back up cheerleaders  that come in from out of nowhere. Even Joe’s jaw drops to the floor.

All the eyes on me in the center of the ring

Just like a circus (ah, ah, ahaha-hah)

When I crack that whip, everybody gonna trip

Just like a circus (ah, ah, ahaha-hah)

Don't stand there watching me, follow me

When Nathan finishes, the cheerleaders disappear out the doors and he receives a standing ovation.

“Eat it bitches…that’s how you put on a show.” Nathan gloated.

“Well, it looks like we have a top contender…” Mrs. Clarke said, “Who’s next?”

“I’ll go.” Alex said, he was the only one who was willing to go after Nathan. “This song is dedicated to someone in my life who I never thought in a million years I could see my self with…” Lily begins smiling a huge grin. “Joe, this is for you man…” He says, his smile fading as he sees Lily’s face. The music starts and Lily grimaces as her boyfriend sings ‘You’re My Best Friend’ by Queen to her brother.

The school bell rang and Lily stormed off. Kyle and Maya rushed after her. Alex was confused.

“Did I do something wrong?” He asked as Joe patted him on the shoulder.

“Yeah…you sure as hell did.”

***

The next day, Lily still was refusing to talk to Alex. He completely embarrassed her in there and she did not appreciate it.

“Lily…”

“Leave me alone…”

“I didn’t realize how much this would affect you.”

“It really shouldn’t have. Look, Alex: I love that you and Joe are best friends; I really do. But was he really the first person when you thought of a solo to sing to someone personally?”

***

Kyle had fucked so many times that he wouldn’t blame Maya if she gave up on him. But he was done trying to change himself to please other people.

The loud bass of the club was pumping loud. He saw Becca dancing with a really hot guy, no doubt trying to get her mind away from Jackie. He had no idea why he agreed to go out with Nathan, Becca and Sydney: it wasn’t like he was close friends with them or like he’d be able to get a drink. They would sell him out to Lily or Maya in a heartbeat, well; Becca would and Sydney might.

“Can I get you a drink?” a boy asked him. He was pretty good looking, it wasn’t like he could do worse. Kyle didn’t really have a type. It was Becca’s boy, the really hot one.

“You know I’m seventeen right?”

“ So am I.” He said, a devilish grin appearing on his face.

“You look like you want trouble…”

“And you look like you are trouble…”

“I’ve been told that.” Kyle replied coyly as the boy ordered two drinks for himself and Kyle.

“You want it?”

“I do…”

“All it will take is a kiss.”

“That I can do…” Kyle said as he kissed the boy and then took the drink from him and grabbed his hand and brought him into the bathroom.

***

“You know, I wasn’t disappointed Kyle. I heard rumors that you were down for anything…” The boy said as they were both adjusting their clothes.

“How’d you know my name?”

“Your reputation precedes you. Enjoy that drink…” The boy said as he walked out and rejoined his friends, kissing a random girl he knew could only be his girlfriend.

“Kyle… There you are: we’ve been looking everywhere for you...what happened to your hair?

"Um...well, he wasn't the first guy to pull my hair during...if you know what I mean?"

"Gross... Anyways: Syd and I are about to leave and meet with Cass in the park. You wanna join?”

“What about Becca?”

“She saw the guy she was with make out with his girlfriend and left. So you in?”

He knew there would be more alcohol and drugs involved. He knew Nathan loved to party almost as much as he used to. But he was an addict, and Nathan wouldn’t tell.

“Yeah. I’m in…”

“Sweet.” Nathan said leaving, but Kyle stopped him from leaving. “ Kyle I knew you liked me but I didn’t know that much.”

“I’m not doing this because of this…you have to promise me you won’t tell Lily or Maya or anyone else…”

“I promise.” Nathan said, he wanted to know what Party Animal Kyle was like, because he had heard so many rumors.

***

Angelika didn’t like lying to her friends. But she had too: she pretended like she had the perfect relationship with Rufus, but she was bored. He was a great guy, but she was bored with everything else about him.

“Ang? You listening?”

“Huh? Oh, yeah…I am.”

“That’s the second time today you’ve zoned out…”

“I’m sorry.”

“So anyways…”

“It’s just you’re so fucking boring…” She said and she immediately regretted it.

“You know… I knew you were a bitch, but I didn’t think you could be a bigger bitch than Alison…”

“I am NOT!” She shrieked. How DARE he compare her to Alison. She only hung out with her because they were both friends with Sydney.

“I’m going. You should get to class.”

“You don’t get to tell me what to do.”

“I just did.” He said leaving their spot in the library. Angelika threw a dictionary at him which missed and nearly hit Alyssa in the face. Alyssa began ripping pages out of the dictionary and started stuffing them in her sweater.

“What? It’s for insulation…” She said as the librarian escorted her out of the Library.

***

Angelika kicked things off in Glee Club that day, still fuming from her argument with she changed her song like, a thousand times. She looked into the audience and saw a few things of note: a very hungover looking Nathan, a sleepy Alex and a pissed off Lily among them.

“So this song is for the basic ass bitches who try and tell you what to do…”

“Language.” Mrs. Clarke said.

'ANGELIKA:'

Try to tell me what I shouldn't do

You should know by now,

I won't listen to you

Walk around with my hands up in the air

Cause I don't care

Cause I'm alright, I'm fine

Just freak out, let it go

I'm gonna live my life

I can't ever run and hide

I won't compromise

Cause I'll never know

I'm gonna close my eyes

I can't watch the time go by

I won't keep it inside

Freak out, let it go

Just freak out, let it go

You don't always have to do everything right

Stand up for yourself

And put up a fight

walk around with your hands up in the air

Like you don't care

Cause I'm alright, I'm fine

Just freak out, let it go

I'm gonna live my life

I can't ever run and hide

I won't compromise

Cause I'll never know

I'm gonna close my eyes

I can't watch the time go by

I won't keep it inside

Freak out, let it go

On my own

Let it go

Yeah, yeah, yeah

Just let me live my life

I can't ever run and hide

I won't compromise

Cause I'll never know

I'm gonna close my eyes

I can't watch the time go by

I won't keep it inside

Freak out, let it go

Kyle begins getting blurry eyed and feels his stomach churning. Hangovers were a bitch but he had never felt this sick after a night out. How much did he drink last night?

Gonna freak out, let it go

Gonna freak out, let it go

Maya was worried: she knew Kyle was hurting but she had hoped he wouldn’t start partying again. The rest of the glee club just stared blankly at each other.

“Right…who’s next.” Mrs. Clarke said trying to break the awkward tension in the air. Jackie and Zach both raised their hands at the same time.

“Jackie.” “Right this song is for all of y’all to know that I am here and nothing and no one is going to stop me for…”

“Just get on with it Butch Magee…” Alison said bored out of her mind. She was still pissed beyond belief at Matt. Jackie sung Rise by Katy Perry.

***

Zach was tired of the awkward air around him and Joe. He knew Joe was seeing another guy after their first break up. Also Joe was perfect for him: They were so different, Joe was out and proud, where as Zach preferred to keep to himself.

His parents tried with him but his father was still uneasy about the fact that his youngest son’s bisexuality. He knew his father wished Zach was straight. He knew that he preferred not knowing his son had a boyfriend.

It hurt Zach that his dad didn’t fully accept his relationship with Joe. He just wished it wasn’t so awkward between him and Joe, because his dad was already awkward enough around them.

“This song is for Joe… I don’t want to get into a big explanation about why I chose this song, just know it’s for Joe.” He said.

ZACH:

ZACH:

I might never be your knight in shining armour

I might never be the one you take home to mother

And I might never be the one who brings you flowers

But I can be the one, be the one tonight

When I first saw you

From across the room

I could tell that you were curious,

Oh, yeah

Girl, I hope you’re sure

What you're looking for

'Cause I'm not good at making promises

But if you like causing trouble up in hotel rooms

And if you like having secret little rendezvous

If you like to do the things you know that we shouldn’t do

Then baby, I'm perfect

Baby, I'm perfect for you

And if you like midnight driving with the windows down

And if you like going places we can’t even pronounce

If you like to do whatever you've been dreaming about

Then baby, you're perfect

Baby, you're perfect

So let's start right now

I might never be the hands you put your heart in

Or the arms that hold you any time you want them

But that don’t mean that we can’t live here in the moment

'Cause I can be the one you love from time to time

When I first saw you

From across the room

I could tell that you were curious,

Oh, yeah

Girl, I hope you’re sure

What you're looking for

'Cause I'm not good at making promises

Kyle walked back in. He looked horrible, but he just put his Raybans on so no one could see the bags under his eyes.  He just wanted this day to be finished. Maya eyed him carefully. Lily was too focused on glaring at Alex wondering what she was going to do with him. But Matt saw the looks Maya was giving Kyle.

But if you like causing trouble up in hotel rooms

And if you like having secret little rendezvous

If you like to do the things you know that we shouldn’t do

Then baby, I'm perfect

Baby, I'm perfect for you

And if you like midnight driving with the windows down

And if you like going places we can’t even pronounce

If you like to do whatever you've been dreaming about

Then baby, you're perfect

Baby, you're perfect

So let's start right now

And if you like cameras flashing every time we go out,

Oh, yeah

And if you're looking for someone to write your break-up songs about

Baby, I'm perfect

Baby, we're perfect

If you like causing trouble up in hotel rooms

And if you like having secret little rendezvous

If you like to do the things you know that we shouldn’t do

Then baby, I'm perfect

Baby, I'm perfect for you

And if you like midnight driving with the windows down

And if you like going places we can’t even pronounce

If you like to do whatever you've been dreaming about

Then baby, you're perfect

Baby, you're perfect

So let's start right now

Joe immediately stood up clapping before making out with Zach in front of the glee club.

“Kyle, so nice of you to come back to us…but class is over: Lily, Sydney, Matt, Maya and Kyle; you five are the last people to perform and you will sing tomorrow.” Mrs. Clarke said.

***

When they were finished, Kyle thought he would have the rest of Thursday to himself. He was wrong: Nathan wanted him to come out with him again.

“Are you trying to sabotage me?”

“Me? Never…” Nathan said winking.

“What happened last night, Nathan?”

“Well, we got there. You went in: I knew I would like Party Animal Kyle….”

“So what happened?”

“From what I remember, you stole a traffic sign, flirted with a hobo and kicked over your some lawn gnomes…”

“Fuck.”

“You seriously don’t remember anything?”

“All I remember is…you know, with some random guy in the club bathroom.”

“Classy.”

“Shut up…”

“I always thought you were one of those uptight abstinent good little Catholic boys…”

“Definitely not a good little Catholic boy.” Kyle said, still surprised Nathan saw him as the innocent one.

“You gonna come out tonight?”

“Man, I don’t know if that’s a good idea…I got like fifty projects due, not to mention this solo thing…”

“Why bother with the Solo competition…we all know I crushed it. I’m totally gonna win: Please come out with me? I actually, and I will deny this if you ever say it in public, like partying with you.”

“Fine, I’ll meet you at my grandmothers flat? We can pre-drink there.”

“Sweet.”

“It’ll just be us, right?”

“Probably…why?”

“I just don’t want…I don’t want Maya to find out.”

“It’s too late for that.” Maya said behind them. Nathan ran away, leaving Kyle and a very angry Malaya Dumas.

“Maya…”

“Don’t: don’t you fucking dare, Maya me…”

“Please, just listen to me…”

“I thought you were supposed to be grieving.”

“I don’t want to anymore…I’m tired of being sad all the fucking time.”

“So you’d rather be drunk for the rest of your life?”

“If it stops me from feeling anything then yes.” Kyle said as Maya turned around to leave, walking towards her was Matt, with a concerned look on his face.

“Maya…Maya wait…”

“I’ve been waiting, Kyle. I’ve been waiting for a fucking long ass time. You don’t want to grieve anymore, and I don’t want to wait: so maybe its best if we went our separate ways. Every time I try to help, you throw it back in my face.” She said as she pushed past Matt and a disappointed Lily.

“MAYA!”

“Just leave her alone, Kyle. You’ve done enough damage. It’s time for you to grow up and get your head down out of the cloud…“ Matt said, taking Maya’s side before he left to go find his ex girlfriend.

“Kyle…”

“Are you going to yell at me too, Lily? Tell me how much of a fuck up I really am?”

“No I was just gonna call you a fucking idiot…”

“Like I don’t already know that.”

“I was also gonna say you look like you could use a sister; not a shrink or a critic.”

“I just need a drink.” He said beginning to walk away.

“Kyle…”

“You can join me if you like.” Lily knew it was a bad idea but, truth be told she needed a drink too.

***

Maya had the Sweetings number in her hands ready to call. Joe was wifed up with Zach at the movies all night. Only Lily and Jessica would know…

“Are you going to do it?”

“I-I don’t know…”

“Maya, he needs help. He’s basically a sociopath, the way he keeps using you…”

“I can’t do it. He’s still my best friend, I need to protect him.”

“From what, Maya? You’ve built your life around him. If he wasn’t gay, I would have thought you two were a couple…”

“He’s been through a lot and he needs me there to…”

“To coddle him? You’ve been through shit too. Has he been there once for you? Maybe it’s time for him to chase after you; if he needs you so badly, let him come to you for help.” Matt said before leaving. Maya knew he was right, but that didn’t make what she was going to do any more easy.

***

Sydney was bored. Nathan and Kyle had ditched her for Lilliana and now Alison, Becca AND Angelika were stewing over relationship drama. Andres was no longer an option because all he seemed to do was hang with Alex, Zach and Joe for ‘bro time’. Whatever that meant, probably a coded word for an orgy or something like that.

She was flipping through the television in her room when she landed on Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. She loved Marilyn Monroe: she was a fucking legend. It was then that she went upstairs to her parents room and tried on her mother’s diamond necklace and fell in love. No one ever got her anything for Valentine’s day.

***

That day in the glee club, Maya and Matt were sitting apart from Alison and Kyle for once. Lily was looking guilty and Mrs. Clarke looked anxious to get started.

“Right, so Sydney…you seem to be the only one that’s actually prepared today. So if you please?”

“So you all need to know that I’m not going to talk about how my love for Andres has inspired my choice in predictable sappy love song or crappy boy drama. No: I want to sing about my other true love…hit it random band people who never speak but are always there when I need them to help me sing a song.”

SYDNEY:

The French are glad to die for love

They delight in fighting duels

But I prefer a man who lives

And gives expensive jewels

Sydney soon did a reveal that transformed her plain pink gown into an exact replica of Marilyn Monroe’s famous pink dress from the film. She was also decked out head to toe in her mother’s diamonds.

A kiss on the hand may be quite continental

But diamonds are a girl's best friend

A kiss may be grand but it won't pay the rental

On your humble flat or help you at the automat

Men grow cold

As girls grow old

And we all lose our charms in the end

But square-cut or pear-shaped

These rocks don't lose their shape

Diamonds are a girl's best friend

Tiffany's!

Cartier!

Black Star

Frost Gorham

Talk to me, Harry Winston

Tell me all about it!

There may come a time

When a lass needs a lawyer

But diamonds are a girl's best friend

There may come a time

When a hard-boiled employer

Thinks you're awful nice

But get that ice or else no dice

He's your guy

When stocks are high

But beware when they start to descend

It's then that those louses

Go back to their spouses

Diamonds are a girl's best friend

I've heard of affairs

That are strictly platonic

But diamonds are a girl's best friend

And I think affairs

That you must keep liaisonic

Are better bets if little pets get big baguettes

Time rolls on

And youth is gone

And you can't straighten up when you bend

But stiff back

Or stiff knees

You stand straight at Tiffany's

Diamonds! Diamonds!

I don't mean rhinestones!

But diamonds are a girl's best friend

The rest of the Note-Worthy clapped, Sydney had truly out done herself and gave Nathan a run for his money in terms of performance.

“Hey…”

“What? Come to call me other despicable names?”

“Alison, why can’t you let this go?”

“Because no matter what I do, I feel like I’m always going to be second best to Mulannabe.”

“She’s going through shit with Kyle right now…”

“She’s ALWAYS going through shit with Kyle. They are like Gay Ross and Rachel the Hag: one minute they are best friends, the next they are at each others throats. What about me? You seem to spend every waking minute taking care of your ex girlfriend.”

“I am not…”

“Where were you last night?” Matt just stood still, too afraid to answer. Alison glared at him. “I thought so.” She said before walking away.

“Mrs. Clarke. I think I have my solo prepared.” Matt said.

“Excellent. Matt, come on up and show us what you got.”

MATT:

There are people

And they are publishing my book

And there's a party that they're throwing

And while you've made it very clear that you're not going

I will be going

And that's done

Alison began to get up. She couldn’t bare it, she thought Matt would be singing a song apologizing, but Matt kept singing.

But what's it really about?

Is it really about a party, Ali?

Can we please for a minute stop blaming

And say what you feel?

Is it just that you're disappointed

To be going again to Ohio?

Did you think this would all be much easier

Than it's turned out to be?

Well, then talk to me, Ali

Talk to me

If I didn't believe in you

We'd never have gotten this far

If I didn't believe in you

And all of the ten thousand women you are

If I didn't think you could do

Ali laughed at this line quietly. Matt walked up to her and grabbed her hand and sat her down on a chair in the middle of the room. He wanted her to hear the words he was singing.

Anything you ever wanted to

If I wasn't certain that you'd come through somehow

The fact of the matter is, Ali

I wouldn't be standing here now

If I didn't believe in you

We wouldn't be having this fight

If I didn't believe in you

I'd walk out the door and say,

"Ali, you're right"

But I never could let that go

Knowing the things about you I know

Things, when I met you four years ago, I knew

It never took much convincing

To make me believe in you

Don't we get to be happy, Ali?

At some point down the line

Don't we get to relax?

Without some new tsuris

To push me yet further from you?

If I'm cheering on your side, Ali

Why can't you support mine?

Why do I have to feel

I've committed some felony

Doing what I always swore I would do?

I don't want you to hurt

I don't want you to sink

But you know what I think?

I think you'll be fine!

Just hang on and you'll see-

But don't make me wait till you do

To be happy with you

Will you listen to me?

No one can give you courage

No one can thicken your skin

I will not fail so you can be comfortable, Ali

I will not lose because you can't win.

Alison Jean began to tear up. Matt was a jerk sometimes: but he was right. She was being selfish, she wanted him to drop everything for her, because she thought he didn’t believe in her, but he did. He really did believe in her and he really did love her. And she did in return.

If I didn't believe in your

Then here's where the travelogue ends

If I didn't believe in you

I couldn't have stood before all of our friends

And said, "This is the life I choose-

This is the thing I can't bear to lose

Trip us or trap us, but we refuse to fall"

That's what I thought we agreed on

 Ali

If I hadn't believed in you;

I wouldn't have loved you at all

Maya felt her eyes tear up at this. She couldn’t stop herself from feeling jealous and sad that Matt belonged to someone else. She hoped Kyle noticed her mouthing the words along to him. She loved Kyle, he was her best friend: but she couldn’t do this. Not anymore.

Alison and Matt, for the first time in almost a week, finally kissed and made up.

“Mrs. Clarke: if I could have the floor?” Lily piped up. Mrs. Clarke was surprised, she had thought that only Sydney was prepared, but Matt and Lily stepped up.

“Of course, Lily.”

“Alex, after so much thought about what you sang a few days ago; I debated and went through so many songs in my head. All I could come up with was this one.”

LILY:

Have you ever fed a lover with just your hands?

Closed your eyes and trusted, just trusted?

Have you ever thrown a fistful of glitter in the air?

Have you ever looked fear in the face and said, "I just don't care."?

It's only half past the point of no return

The tip of the iceberg, the sun before the burn

The thunder before the lightning and the breath before the phrase

"Have you ever felt this way?"

Have you ever hated yourself for staring at the phone?

Your whole life waiting on the ring to prove you're not alone

Have you ever been touched so gently you had to cry?

Have you ever invited a stranger to come inside?

It's only half past the point of oblivion

The hourglass on the table, the walk before the run

The breath before the kiss, and the fear before the phrase

"Have you ever felt this way?"

La la la la la la la la

Lily began remembering a simple memory from when they were officially dating. It was a simple memory, but it was the happiest she had ever felt with him:

Alex had been sitting in the garden of his home, even though it was the winter. Lily brought him coffee and he grabbed both of them from her and asked

“Did you bring the sugar, sugar?”

There you are,

Sitting in the garden,

Clutching my coffee,

Calling me sugar

You called me sugar

Have you ever wished for an endless night?

Lassoed the moon and the stars and pulled that rope tight?

Have you ever held your breath and asked yourself will it ever get better than tonight?

Tonight

Alex went up to her and hugged her tight. No words, no kisses, he just held her. Kyle looked at this with sad eyes. He wanted what all of his friends had. He needed a hero; he just needed someone to sweep him off of his feet and rescue him from himself. He was lost.

***

“Kyle…” Maya said from behind him.

“Maya: I…I-I’m so…”

“Please, just listen to me. I wanted to say that I will always love you and if you ever need it, I will be there for you in a heart beat: but I can’t do this anymore. I need to move on and hope you realize that you’re losing friends if you keep this up. I miss the boy who would stay over all night and just talk to me. You made me feel like I was worth something, and I hope you realize this soon. Because you are worth something.” She said quietly, holding his hand with tears streaming down her face. Kyle was equally as devastated at what she was saying. She kissed his cheek before walking away.

MAYA:

I took my love, took it down

I climbed a mountain and I turned around

And I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills

'Til the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?

Can the child within my heart rise above?

Can I sail through the changing ocean tides?

Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Well, I've been afraid of changing

'Cause I've built my life around you

But time made you bolder

Even children get older

And I'm getting older too

Well, I've been afraid of changing

'Cause I've built my life around you

But time made you bolder

Even children get older

And I'm getting older too

Oh, I'm getting older too

Tears begin streaming down her face as her voice begins to crack from trying to hold back her tears. She was only looking at Kyle, and her message was loud and clear to him.

I take my love, take it down

I climb a mountain and turn around

And if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills

Will the landslide bring you down?

And if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills

Will the landslide bring you down, oh, oh?

The landslide bring you down

The bell rang, and the entire glee club was shellshocked. They had all just witnessed the biggest and most devastating fallout ever. Maya walked away, Kyle out the other door. Neither one acknowleged the other. The rest of the glee club left in disbelief.

“Kyle?” Margot said. She was surprised to see him outside her door.

“Hey.” He said quietly, clearly faking a smile. A little girl came running up to him. He hadn’t seen his neice since his brother’s funeral. He was so innocent back then and she was so big now.

“Unca Kyoh. Look, I lose toof.” She said proudly. Margot noticing her brother was uncomfortable, intervened.

“Alright princess, your uncle and I need to talk, time for a nap.”

“No mommy I don’t want nap.”

“Katie…”

“Fine.”

Margot turned back to her brother and gestured for him to sit. Kyle did as she asked.

“What’s wrong?” Margot asked as Kyle just broke down. He was trying so hard not to but everything just kept flooding back to him. He was broken and refused to ask for help and that cost him everything.

“Why am I so weak?”

“Psh…seriously Kyle? You’re a fucking Ogilvie, we’re all strong and you’re probably the strongest one out of all of us.”

“People want me to change…”

“Screw them. Don’t change because people want you too. Okay, so you have an alcohol problem. Our family has had an alcohol problem since the end of the Second World War. Listen to me when I say this, because I’m not going to repeat myself: you’re the strongest kid I’ve ever known. Between having to deal with Dad and his temper, Frankie dying, going to rehab when you were 14 and then being kicked out of the house because you’re gay, you’ve dealt with your fair share of shit and I wish I was as strong as you were.”

“Up until a few weeks ago I thought you didn’t want anything to do with me.”

“ I will be the first person to say I was a bitch to you. I know now that I wasn’t there for you. I blamed you for making Dad as angry as he is. I blamed you because Frankie died.”

“I feel like just one big fuck up.”

“You’re not a screw up, you’re a teenage boy. You’re hormones are racing and you have more angst than most people combined. Can I ask you something?”

“What’s up?”

“I was going to spend a month in the summer in the Hamptons at the Oma’s beach house, and was wondering if you wanted to come with me?”

“I need to focus on me…”

“Maybe you’ll stand a better chance if you accept the things you cannot change. And just try to be a better person, but still be you. You’re an Addict, You’re gay, You’re promiscuous from what I hear…”

“How does everyone know about the stuff I’ve done?”

“You’re a rich kid from a prominent family in the Miami area, how do you think? You’re a fucking Ogilvie. If people don’t accept who you are, screw them and be yourself.”

“I just want to scream sometimes…”

“Then scream Kyle. Scream as loud as you can. It’s not a cry for help, it’s a battle cry. It’s your Battle Cry, and let it be loud and let it be fierce.”

Kyle had a lot to think about. Yeah, his sister was horrible at giving advice but she meant well. He was planning on going to the Hamptons this summer anyways this was just an excuse to give to Jessica if she asked.

***

Kyle walked into school that morning. He was the last person to have to sing his ‘solo’ and he was so confused about what to sing, he had gone through a million different songs in his head. He still wasn’t sure…All he knew was that last night had been a particular heavy night for drinking…

Anyways when he walked into school that day it was almost like he felt every single stare on every single person, judging him. But his sister was right, he was an Ogilvie; he was better than most of them were. Screw them if they didn’t take him as he was… and that, sadly, now included Maya.

“Hi Kyle, I hear you were busy last night…” Gina, who had taken Alison’s place as the meanest girl in school. “I can’t imagine why Maya would want to be friends with...you.” She said, emphasizing the last bit.

“Out of the way…”

“Everyone knows you went to rehab. Everyone knows how big of a slut you are. Everyone knows you tried to kill yourself, so why don’t you do us all a favour and try harder next time because everyone knows everything, bitch.” She shouted, all eyes turning to him. Kyle kept his head held high, even though he wants nothing more than to run and hide and cry until he died.

“Kyle?” Lily asked behind him.

“Yeah?” He said, feeling like he was on the verge of tear.

“Are you okay?” Kyle turned and looked at her. For a split second, he looked on the verge of crying, but that changed and his face darkened.

“I’m fine. Gina’s just a second rate Alison, everyone knows that. No one actually cares about her.” He said, as Lily was about to say something but Kyle just walked away.

Kyle went into the bathroom and had a a good sip of vodka. He deserved it, and he could control himself. He was in control.

***

Kyle walked into the glee club to stares of pity and judgement. He was breaking from the inside out. It felt like no matter how hard he tried with these people he was always going to be that broken sad little boy he was a few weeks ago when Pearl died.

Maya was the only one who looked at him without any sort of emotion. She knew how he felt but this time he wouldn’t be there to rescue him.

“Let’s just get this over with.” He said, as the band started playing.

KYLE:

I don't need to be anything other than a prison guard's son

I don't need to be anything other than a specialist's son

I don't have to be anyone other than a birth of two souls in one

Part of where I'm going is knowing where I'm coming from

I don't want to be anything other than what I've been trying to be lately

All I have to do is think of me and I have peace of mind

Lily was slightly disappointed because she thought her brother would be singing a song about how he wanted to change. But he clearly was standing his ground and being as stubborn as they come.

I'm tired of looking 'round rooms wondering what I gotta do

Or who I'm supposed to be

I don't want to be anything other than me

Kyle finally felt like he had his confidence back in some form. He was telling everyone not to expect him to change, that if all he was going to anyone was a fuck up, then they’d better get the hell out of his way.

I'm surrounded by liars everywhere I turn

I'm surrounded by imposters everywhere I turn

I'm surrounded by a deadly crisis everywhere I turn

Am I the only one to notice?

I can't be the only one who's learned

I don't want to be anything other than what I've been trying to be lately

All I have to do is think about me and I have peace of mind

I'm tired of looking 'round rooms wondering what I gotta do

Or who I'm supposed to be

I don't want to be anything other than me

Can I have everyone's attention please

See, not like this and that

You're gonna have to leave

Kyle was clearly making his intentions never to change loud and clear. Maya was determined to stand her ground. He didn’t want to try and get help; and if he did he wouldn’t get it from Maya, not anymore. As far as the rest of the Glee Club were concerned, they were no longer friends.

I came from the mountain, the crust of creation

My whole situation made from clay, dust, stone

And now I'm telling everybody

I don't want to be anything other than what I've been trying to be lately

All I have to do is think of me and I have peace of mind

I'm tired of looking 'round rooms wondering what I'm trying to do

Or who I'm supposed to be

I don't want to be anything other than me

I don't want to be

I don't want to be

I don't want to be

When he was done, there was scattered clapping heard from around the room. Only Nathan was clapping loud. He loved this new, improved, bitchy Kyle. Maya was the only one not clapping; instead she was glaring at him.

***

“Oh, Gina?” Kyle asked, sickeningly sweet and fake.

“What?”

“Listen, I know it must be hard for you, what with only being the third best girlfriend Matt has ever had; but mess with me again, and you will wish you hadn’t.”

“I am the best girlfriend he ever…”

“No your not. I know it must also be hard for, to find eyeliner that doesn’t give you permanent resting bitch face but just know that you’ll never be as mean or as popular as Alison is. So you can fuck off with this bitch streak of yours. “

“You think you can threaten me…I already destroyed you…”

“Not really. There are three things I cared about in this world; My Oma, Pearl, and Maya and they’re both gone.”

“What’s the third?”

“Gina my dear, there’s a new sheriff in town. “ He simply said. Kyle fucking Ogilvie had come to party, and he was going to destroy anyone who got in his way. All Ogilvies have a bitchy side, and it was time for his to be unleashed.

Across the hall, Maya and Lily shared concerned looks. They both knew that Kyle was making a huge mistake.

Lily to Maya: Did u c that?

Maya: Yh.

Lily: We need to keep an eye on him. I know you aren’t speaking at the moment but We all know Kyles gonna do sthg stupid if we don’t stop him.

Maya: I agree. Even after everything, he’s still my best friend.

Lily: we’ll talk alone. Later.

The two girls walked out separately.

***

As Kyle walked out of the school, he felt a new found freedom that he hadn’t felt in a long time. And even though he was crumbling from the inside out. When he got to his SUV, he got in, and started driving.

Joe: Hey, was everything alright in glee club today? Kyle was at a stop light when he picked up his phone. He texted Joe back quickly.

Kyle: yh, im feeling amazing rn. Ttyl, gotta go.

Joe: kk. Also can you get some milk.

The light turned green and Kyle put his foot on the gas. His phone still in his hand he began typing away when sirens began flashing in the distance. Kyle pulled over. He remembered he had some vodka in his dashboard compartment, he grabbed it and tried to hide it when he heard a knock on his window, trying to hide the evidence.

***

Around the corner, Maya and Lily were sitting in a café to discuss what they would do with Kyle. It was an hour until they were finished and when they were: Lily got a phone call from Jessica.

“Mom hey? What’s up?”

Maya saw Lily’s face as it dropped. She knew it had to be bad because Lily’s face darkened and she looked upset about something.

“Okay, we’re on our way…” she said as she hung up.

“What happened?”

“It’s Kyle…he’s been arrested for public intoxication...” She said, confused and angry at the same time.
